A Sulphur man admitted to throwing a 13-month-old child against a wall, resulting in the baby’s death, authorities said Monday.

The child was brought to a local hospital Saturday morning and died Monday morning, Calcasieu Sheriff Tony Mancuso said.

The boyfriend of the baby’s mother, Trent Dubroc, 24, was arrested Saturday for failing to appear in court Sept. 20 on video voyeurism charges, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said in a news release.

Dubroc is charged with second-degree cruelty to a juvenile, but charges may be upgraded following the child’s death, Mancuso said.

Judge Michael Canaday set Dubroc’s bond at $1.5 million. Dubroc is being held at the Calcasieu Correctional Center.

“During the interview, Mr. Dubroc confirmed that he removed the baby from the crib, threw the baby across the room out of frustration and then returned the baby to the crib and didn’t tell anybody,” Mancuso said.

When the baby was brought to the hospital, it was in distress, disoriented and not walking properly, Mancuso said.

Hospital staff determined the baby had a skull fracture and the child was transported to a Baton Rouge hospital, the sheriff said.

“This is just one of those things that breaks your heart,” Mancuso said. “A poor, defenseless baby to throw it across the room out of frustration, I don’t get that.”
