The Family Styling Salon on Common Street caught fire around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, after an employee’s pants caught fire.
According to Sandra Fontenot, the owner of the salon, one of the salon’s workers had set up her station in the salon with lamp that contained scented oil.
Fontenot said the worker spilled oil on her pants and caught on fire. The worker then removed her pants, catching the table on fire as well.
The fire spread from there.
Fontenot said she had just stepped out of the salon “for a minute” when the incident occurred.
The shop is “pretty damaged” and Fontenot is not yet sure when the salon will be able to reopen.
“It’s my shop. It’s my life. I love it and I love what I do,” Fontenot said. “As soon as possible we will be open again.”
