The trial of a local attorney who was indicted in June 2013 on a charge of forcible rape began Monday in state district court.

Jonathan Lane Johnson, 37, is accused of drugging a woman and raping her, authorities said.

Johnson was arrested in 2011 after Louisiana State Police investigators looked into a complaint by a 21-year-old woman who said she got a drink from Johnson at a local bar and “after a couple sips” of it began feeling “sick and weak.”

Officials said Johnson is accused of taking the alleged victim to his home and having sexual relations with her.

“The female was unable to consent to the sexual act due to her extreme impairment,” authorities said.

Johnson’s case is being heard by a judge and the bench trial is expected to continue throughout the week. The Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office recused itself from the case because of Johnson’s former employment as a law clerk.
