McNeese State University will host the 2012 High School Marching Band Festival, “The Showdown at Sundown,” at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at Cowboy Stadium.
Fifteen high school marching bands from Louisiana and Texas will participate in the festival, said Jay Jacobs, McNeese’s band conductor.
Bands will be judged by a panel of music educators from Louisiana, Iowa, Georgia and Texas in the areas of music, marching, percussion, color guard and drum majors.
Ratings for each band will be announced in an awards ceremony at the conclusion of the festival.
Participating Louisiana high schools are Barbe, Jennings, Iowa, Lake Arthur, Merryville, Ellender Memorial of Houma and Sam Houston. Texas high schools are Orangefield, Kountze, Lumberton, Port Neches-Groves, Pasadena Memorial, Sam Rayburn, Robert E. Lee and Hudson.
Admission costs $5 for adults and $2 for children under 12. Seating, concessions and restrooms will be open on the west side of the stadium only.
The Pride of McNeese Cowboy Marching Band will perform before the awards presentation.
