A 27-year-old Leesville man has been arrested after authorities said they found 540 grams of cocaine in his vehicle.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Joemarko D. James, 1221 Tower St., was arrested Tuesday morning by Sgt. Jeff Cole of the Combined Anti-Drug Task Force.

“Cole conducted a stop on the car James was driving for a traffic violation,” Myers said Wednesday in a news release. “After James began to act suspiciously, Cole used his K9 partner Basco to conduct a check around the car.

“Basco provided a positive response to a controlled substance and a search of the vehicle’s trunk revealed a plastic canister containing over 540 grams of cocaine. The cocaine has an estimated street value of $40,000.”

James was charged with possession of cocaine over 400 grams and released after posting a $25,000 bond, which was set by Judge Wilford Carter.””
