LAFAYETTE — “Team Josh” shirts were easy to spot in the sold-out Cajundome on Monday. Southwest Louisiana residents turned out in full force to support hometown hero Joshua Ledet at the American Idol Live! Tour.

“I’m here for Josh. I’m a pretty big fan,” said Westlake resident Sharron Madden. “I supported him all through ‘Idol,’ and I had to come tonight to support my hometown boy.”

About 55 Westlake residents got together and rented a charter bus to take them to the concert. Kay Sonnier, one of the bus ride organizers, said the bus was “so much fun.”

“We played Josh music all the way. We were dancing,” Sonnier said. “Everyone on the bus was a Josh fan, and we just had a great time. Westlake is in the house.”

Sharon Jacko of Lake Charles and a group of six friends attended the show.

“We’ve been following Josh since day one. I am Josh’s biggest fan,” Jacko said. “I can’t wait to see him perform because it’s so different to see him live than it is to see him on TV. I might cry.”

Cynthia Ledet and Donna Bates, Josh’s aunts, said they were “overly excited” to see the show. “There is nothing like seeing him up close and personal,” Bates said.

Melissa Wierseman said this experience was “bittersweet.” Not only does she get to see Ledet, a family friend, perform live, but it is her 10-year-old son Colby’s first concert.

“I remember my mother taking me to see New Kids on the Block for my first concert, and it’s really special,” Melissa said.

“I’m just ready,” Colby said.

Cheers for Josh could be heard throughout the night, but Westlake residents had a special message for him.

“Go Josh! You make Westlake proud,” Madden said.
