A 28-year-old Lake Charles woman has been charged with theft over $500, authorities said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Kayla F. Foster-Hennen, 1646 Ira Breaux Road, has been accused of stealing money and a cell phone.

“On Nov. 25, deputies were dispatched to a business on US 90 in Lake Charles regarding a report of a theft,” Myers said Friday in a news release. “The victim, an employee of the business, said her purse was stolen while she was at work. The victim said her purse contained cash and a cell phone, valued at over $1,500.”

Myers said Foster-Hennen, a patron of the business, was captured by video surveillance removing the purse from an office and throwing it in a trash can. Moments later, Foster-Hennen was seen dragging the trash can out of camera view.

“When questioned by detectives, Foster-Hennen confirmed she stole the victim’s purse and also advised detectives that she threw the victim’s purse in a river after discovering she was caught on surveillance video stealing the purse,” Myers said.

Foster-Hennen was released on a $1,000 bond, set by Judge Wilford Carter.

Detective Jonathan Corkran was the lead investigator on this case.
