A 26-year-old Lake Charles woman has been charged with cruelty to a juvenile after allegedly hitting a 4 year old with a sandal, authorities said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Erica Wells, 1917 8th Street, was arrested on Friday.

“On Oct. 12, deputies were dispatched to a local elementary school after receiving a report that a student showed up at school with bruises to her face, neck and chest,” Myers said in news release on Monday. “During further investigation, deputies discovered Wells struck the victim, a family member, with a sandal causing swelling and severe bruises.”

Myers said Wells confirmed the allegations when questioned by detectives.

Judge Michael Canaday set Wells’ bond at $125,000.

The victim was removed from the home by the Department of Children & Family Services.

Detective William Wilcox was the lead investigator.
