A 25-year-old Lake Charles woman has been charged with theft after allegedly helping co-workers steal over $3,000 worth of merchandise from a local Wal-Mart, authorities said.
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Jana M. Durbin, 1617 8th St., was arrested Friday.
“Deputies were dispatched to the Wal-Mart on La. 171 in reference to a theft,” Myers said Wednesday in a news release. “Deputies spoke with store officials who advised over the last three months, Durbin was captured on video surveillance checking out several current employees but not scanning all of their items. Durbin would place the unscanned items directly into shopping bags, allowing employees to walk out of the store with merchandise worth over $3,000.”
Myers said Durbin confirmed the allegations when questioned by deputies.
Durbin was been released on a $1,000 bond set by Judge Wilford Carter.
Detective Jerry Childress was the lead investigator.
