A 30-year-old Lake Charles man has been charged with two counts of theft under $500 and one count of theft over $500, authorities said.
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Mitchell P. Vincent, 300 Dobbertine Road, Lot No. 30, was arrested Tuesday.
“On July 19, deputies were dispatched to Harlow Lawnmower Repair & Sales in Lake Charles and Louisiana Power Equipment & ATV in Sulphur in reference to Vincent using worthless checks to purchase lawn equipment,” Myers said Wednesday in a news release. “After speaking with employees of the two businesses, deputies discovered Vincent purchased two weed trimmers and an Echo blower, with a combined value of over $1,000, by writing checks from an account that had been closed for over a year.”
Myers said the new tools were later found at a local pawn shop and recovered by detectives.
Judge Ron Ware set Vincent’s bond at $7,500.
Detective Glenn Lowery was the lead investigator.
