A diaper bag filled with more than just wipes and formula has lead to the arrest of a 17-year-old Lake Charles man, authorities said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Christopher Paul Duplechin, 3462 Duke Road, was arrested Friday follow a month-long investigation.

“On March 21, deputies were dispatched to a local hotel regarding a theft,” Myers said Monday in a news release. “The victim said a diaper bag, containing over $100,000 worth of jewelry, electronic items and $14,000 in cash, had been stolen from the pool area of the hotel. The victim said they did not realize the bag was missing until after they returned to their home in Texas.”

Myers said a search of Duplechin’s bedroom turned up the stolen jewelry and some of the cash.

Duplechin was charged with theft over $1,500. Bond was set at $100,000.

Title: Must have a lot more money than sense.

How can someone not miss a bag with $14,000 and $100,000 worth of jewelry. I'd of had the screaming memees just carrying around that much. This couple loses the bag at the pool and does not notice until they get home? Sounds like the Thorntons from Gilligan's Island.
