LC man indicted on rape, burglary, firearm charges

A Lake Charles man accused of forcing a woman to perform sex acts was indicted on rape and burglary charges Thursday in state district court.

A grand jury returned charges of aggravated rape, aggravated burglary, armed robbery and armed robbery with a firearm against Javonta Jermel Harrison, 18.

The incident happened on Aug. 15, according to the indictment.

Harrison reportedly used a weapon to force the woman to perform sex acts after midnight on a Friday. After reporting the incident to Lake Charles police, the woman reportedly identified her attacker.

Harrison is being held in the Calcasieu Correctional Center on $1.14 million bond.

Man charged with child molestation

A Sulphur man who admitted inappropriately touching a 6-year-old girl was charged with molestation a juvenile Tuesday, authorities said.

The girl told investigators that she awoke to find Erick G. Gragg, 35, of 6887 Earl Ellender Road, on top of her with his clothes on moving back and forth and touching her in an inappropriate manner, said Kim Myers, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman.

She said Gragg confirmed the victim’s account of the incident. He was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. Bond has not yet been set.

Teenager arrested in home burglary

A local teenager was charged with the burglary of a south Lake Charles home after his photo was posted by local media, including the American Press, authorities said.

Nicholas C. LaSalle, 18, 2899 Sugarloaf Drive, broke into the home on Sept. 4, said Kim Myers, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman.

He kicked in the door of the garage and stole several items, including guns, from inside the home, she said.

LaSalle was identified after a photo of him taken from the homeowner’s security video was posted in the media and online, Myers said.

He was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on charges of burglary and firearm theft. Judge David Ritchie set bond at $100,000.

Task force makes cocaine bust

The Calcasieu Parish Combined Anti-Drug Task Force seized two bundles of cocaine worth about $80,000 during a traffic stop on Interstate 10 East last week, authorities said.

The driver, Robert T. Williams, 33, Ozark, Ala., acted suspiciously during the stop, made Sept. 9, and the officer asked to search the car, said Kim Myers, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman.

The officer’s drug dog indicated the car held drugs, and a search revealed the bundles of cocaine, weighing about 2 pounds, in the trunk liner, she said.

Williams was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on a charge of cocaine possession with intent to distribute. Judge Sharon Wilson set bond at $15,000.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests:

Sherman Brown, 41, 2214 Clarinda St. — obstructing public passage, drug possession, having weapons in the presence of drugs, bicycle infraction. Bond: $13,000.

Kip Allen Alexander, 49, 2891 Dunne St., Sulphur — drug possession. Bond: $5,000.

Jacqueline Michelle Jordan, 48, Bagdad Street, Westlake — theft.

Javonna Antonia Drake, 29, 10th Street, Lake Charles — theft.

Diane Harris, 55, Houston — careless operation, switched plates.

David St. Germain, 17, South Irwin Street, Lake Charles — theft.

Simus Fredrick Benjamin, 29, Tallow Road — switched plates, driving under suspension, no insurance, inspection sticker or license plate, outstanding warrant.
