GRETNA (AP) — A grandmother has admitted she killed her 2-year-old grandson, tearing his liver and causing an array of bruises, abrasions and burns during beatings she administered in her apartment.

The Times-Picayune reported 42-yar-old Janella Lewis, of Harvey, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and cruelty to a juvenile last week.

Lewis was sentenced to 40-year prison for inflicting the fatal injuries to Titus Gooseberry on Jan. 14, 2011.

Authorities say Titus’ mother left the boy and his older brother with Lewis about a month before the toddler died.
