Three Texas women were killed Friday afternoon a two-vehicle crash near Vinton, state police said.

Sgt. James Anderson, Troop D spokesman, said a small SUV traveling west on La. 3063 (Delta Downs Drive) failed to stop at a stop sign and was struck by an 18-wheeler traveling north on La. 109.

The three people killed were 53-year-old Diana Gonzales, who was driving, and Rosa Barron-Hinojosa, 44, and Lidia Trevino Gonzales, 79. All three women were from Palacio, Texas.

Anderson said a preliminary investigation revealed that the 18-wheeler attempted to stop, but struck the SUV and pushed it about 380 feet into a ditch on the other side of the highway.

Anderson said the driver of the truck was uninjured.

He said impairment isn’t expected, but toxicology samples were taken in accordance with policy requiring samples be taken in crashes involving fatalities.
