Elderly Hornbeck man dies after being struck by vehicle

ANACOCO — An elderly pedestrian was killed early Monday trying to cross U.S. 171 in Vernon Parish, state police.

Robert Edward Michalk, 84, of Hornbeck, was walking in the middle of the outside lane of U.S. 171 at Holly Grove Road near Anacoco when he was struck by a southbound vehicle, Troop E Public Information Officer Daniel ''Scott'' Moreau said in a news release.

Michalk was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle, Geneva Maynard Smith, 40, of Anacoco was not injured.

Routine toxicology tests are pending and the accident remains under investigation by Troop E.
