Crime Roundup: Fort Polk soldiers arrested after police chase

State police arrested two Fort Polk soldiers at after they led troopers on a high-speed chase on motorcycles.

Trooper Scott Moreau said 23-year-old Carlton Jamison, of Honolulu, and 20-year-old Nathaniel Sanders, of Fort Polk, have been charged with flight from an officer, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and speeding.

Jamison was clocked at 142 mph in a 45-mph zone while Sanders was clocked at 159 mph in a 65-mph zone.



Lake Charles man charged in home invasion

A 32-year-old Lake Charles man has been accused of breaking into a home and assaulting a woman.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Brandon LaPaul Weldon, 1704 9th Ave., was arrested Friday night at his home.

“Weldon, an ex-acquaintance of the victim, kicked the door off of the hinges and entered the home,” Myers said Monday in a news release. “Weldon grabbed the victim by the arms and held her down by her throat before fleeing before deputies arrived. Two small children were present in the home during the incident.”

Weldon, who was charged with home invasion and criminal damage to property, was released Friday after posting a $5,000 bond set by Judge Wilford Carter.



Lake Charles man facing host of charges

A 25-year-old Lake Charles man has been charged with aggravated flight from an officer, reckless operation, possession of stolen firearms and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

According to records from the Calcasieu Correctional Center, Daniel Jamar Wilfred was arrested at Sunday morning.

Wilfred, 711 10th St., remained in jail Monday. Bond was pending.



Vinton man charged with battery of infirm

A 59-year-old Vinton man has been charged with simple battery of the infirm, authorities said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said James Curtis Collins, 2466 Old Highway 90, was arrested at his home Friday evening.

Collins has been accused of pushing an 85-year-old family member to the ground and striking him numerous times in the face.

Myers said the victim was treated at a local hospital for his injuries.

Collins was released Saturday after posting a $3,000 bond set by Judge Wilford Carter.



City police make 50-pound pot bust

A Houston man was arrested Monday morning after 50 pounds of marijuana was found in the vehicle he was driving, city police said.

Deputy Chief Mark Kraus said 32-year-old Victor Torres Jr. has been charged with marijuana possession with intent to distribute and following too close.

“Early Monday, Sgt. Jeff Cole conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 10 eastbound (in between Vinton and Sulphur),” Kraus said. “Torres, the driver and only occupant of the vehicle, had no identification and claimed to be traveling to Baton Rouge from Houston for work.”

Kraus said Cole saw several indictors associated with in-transit criminal activity and asked for consent to search the vehicle.

A police canine was used and Cole discovered the marijuana in a tire in the bed of the truck.

Bond was pending.



Moss Bluff man charged with burglary, theft

A 19-year-old Moss Bluff man has been charged with simple burglary and theft over $1,500, authorities said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Kade J. Savoie, 19, 652 Santa Ana Drive, was arrested Friday in connection with a robbery on Aug. 12.

Myers said the victim said his home was burglarized and several power tools and rods and reels, worth over $6,000, were stolen.

“During the investigation, detectives discovered Savoie, an ex-family member of the victim, pawned the stolen power tools and a small portion of the fishing gear at a local pawn shop,” Myers said.

Myers said an arrest warrant was issued for Savoie and he was picked up after he was stopped for traffic violation on Tank Farm Road in Lake Charles.

Savoie confirmed he stole the items and sold them to a local pawn shop for cash, Myers said.

Savoie, who was previously arrested for simple robbery on Aug. 3 in separate case, released Saturday after posting a $3,000 bond set by Judge Wilford Carter.



Welsh man arrested on outstanding warrant

A 21-year-old Welsh man was arrested on an outstanding warrant for illegal possession of stolen things.

A Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office official said Dylan Fontenot, 414 South Elm St., was in possession of a stolen dirt bike.



Arrest Reports

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

• Lonnie Joe Clark, 29, 441 La. 66, DeQuincy — attempted simple burglary, attempted criminal damage to property $500 to $50,000. Bond: $35,000.

Shirley Willis, 61, 1751 E. Houston River Road, Sulphur — drug possession, drug possession in a drug-free zone, driving with a suspended license, transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses, no insurance, moving violation, possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond: $15,000.

Dale Dion Quinn, 45, Pierson, Fla. — disturbing the peace, littering, pedestrian soliciting rides or business. Bond: $10,000.

Janice Martina Lacure, 22, 211 Jackson St., DeQuincy — theft over $500, four counts of direct contempt of court. Bond: $8,000.

Destiny Clare Daley, 18, 2218 Ernest St. — motor vehicle theft, drug possession with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond: $5,000.
