Chennault Fly-In features airplanes of all sizes

SULPHUR — Look past the aircraft that arrive at Saturday’s Chennault Fly-In and Open House, and you’ll find a group of aviation enthusiasts who are big fans — on a small scale.
They’re the members of the Lake Area Radio Kontrol Society, the Sulphur-based hobby club dedicated to the advancement of model aviation and the flying of radio controlled model aircraft.
LARKS members have their own miniature airport, four-acre Hinch Field in Carlyss. This weekend, however, they’ll have a static display at much larger Chennault International Airport — sharing space with the real-life bigger planes.
The Fly-In and Open House is scheduled for 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at Chennault, 3620 Sen. J. Bennett Johnston Ave.
Admission to the public is free.
The event will feature a static display of airplanes, helicopters and cars as well as a live demonstration of the Chennault Fire Department’s high-tech emergency fleet — the Oshkosh Stryker 3000 aircraft crash and rescue fire truck.
A privately owned Douglas A-26 Invader is among the vintage aircraft scheduled to fly in for the event.
Vendors will sell food and beverages at booths.
