ACTS, at 1 Reid St., will present “Tuesdays with Morrie,” a stage production based on Mitch Albom’s book about his relationship with his mentor, at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 12, 18 and 19 and at 3 p.m. Jan. 13 and 20.

Tickets are $15 — $10 for students — and can be purchased at the Lake Charles Civic Center, Lakeshore Medic Pharmacy, Moss Bluff Florist & Gifts, at www.actstheatre.com or at 433-ACTS.

Director Carolyn Woosley said the play’s most interesting facet is that it only contains two characters, Morrie Schwartz, played by Michael Goldman, and Mitch Albom, played by Michael Muffuletto.

“These two men carry all of the lines for the hour-and-forty-minute-long play. They also carry all of the dramatic momentum, all of the passion of the play,” she said.

“There’s no third person to come in and supply any relief. The play relies on the talent and the investment of two men in their characters.”

Woosley said the play’s message about finding a way to embrace life through hardships is a positive one for all audiences.

“Morrie has still, unlike Mitch, decided to go after life and embrace it, while Mitch in contrast has negotiated with life, flung away a certain crucial element of his youth and above all avoids pain,” she said.

“Morrie therefore to me has become the hunter and Mitch the hunted. We watch as Morrie deteriorates physically yet ensnares his prey, Mitch, into embracing his own life.”””
