Bogalusa begins enforcing saggy pants ban

Last Modified: Friday, November 23, 2012 10:56 PM

BOGALUSA (AP) — Gentlemen, check your belt lines. Bogalusa police are putting people on notice to pull up saggy pants or else.

The Daily News reported that Mayor Charles Mizell has authorized Police Chief Joe Culpepper to start issuing warnings to people whose pants hang too low. Mizell said the 30-day warning period began Tuesday. After that, underwear overexposers will be ticketed.

The maximum penalty is a $500 fine and 30 days in jail.

The beltline crackdown comes after complaints from resident Larry "Nub" Galloway.

Mizell said he checked with the city attorney, judge and police chief and learned that a 2007 ordinance forbids "indecent exposure of ... person or undergarments."

Mizell said that since the law is already in effect, police can immediately ticket flagrant saggers.
