A 45-year-old Ohio man has been arrested after 20 pounds of marijuana was found in his vehicle, authorities said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Michael D. Boeh, of Cincinnati, was stopped for a traffic violation Friday night while driving eastbound on Interstate 10 near between Vinton and Sulphur.

“Combined Anti-Drug Task Force Detective Cpl. Kevin Hoover conducted the stop,” Myers said. “When Boeh began to act suspiciously during the stop, Cpl. Hoover asked for permission to search the car and Boeh refused.

“After Cpl. Hoover’s K-9 'Mako' alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from the car, a search was conducted and approximately 20 pounds of marijuana wrapped in cellophane and duct tape was recovered from a duffel bag in the trunk of the car.”

Myers said the marijuana has an estimated street value of over $40,000.

Boeh has been charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Judge Michael Canaday set his bond at $100,000.
