Ameristar Casinos representatives will display their plans for the construction of a $500 million casino and resort today.
Top company brass will be in Lake Charles as construction crews prepare to start “moving earth,” a company news release said.
The event will begin at 10 a.m. on property near Pinnacle Entertainment’s L’Auberge Casino Resort.
The new casino is expected to open in the third quarter of 2014.
On Monday, the company announced the completion of its purchase of equity interest from Creative Casinos of Louisiana for $32.5 million.
Creative Casinos planned to build Mojito Pointe, but the endeavor was nixed after struggles to obtain construction financing.
Last month the Louisiana Gaming Control Board granted Ameristar the operating license that Creative Casinos was going to use for its property in Lake Charles.
Ameristar is building on 200-plus acres of land next to L’Auberge.
When completed, the casino-resort will include 1,600 slot machines and 60 table games; a 700-room hotel; food and beverage outlets; a golf course; tennis courts and swimming pools; a spa; and 3,000 parking spaces (1,000 in a garage).
