OBERLIN — Authorities say a body found early Tuesday at Oberlin High School was that of a 48-year-old Oberlin man who shot himself.

Authorities were called to the school at about 5:30 a.m. after a maintenance worker found the body near a canopy area at the front entrance just outside the school, Sheriff Doug Hebert said.

The man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and foul play is not suspected, authorities said. A note was found on the front windshield of the man’s car, which was parked at the school, Hebert said.

Authorities do not believe the body had been at the location long when it was discovered.

School Superintendent Michael Doucet said both Oberlin elementary and high school were closed Tuesday to allow authorities to investigate and clear the scene. Schools will reopen today, he said.””
