Residents who want a copy of the American Press can pick one up at any of the 10 McDonald’s restaurants in Calcasieu Parish.
Doug Gehrig, owner-operator at McDonald’s of Southwest Louisiana, said the company has provided the service for at least five years now. He said customers can order a newspaper in the drive-thru or inside the restaurant.
“The idea came up because we had customers who wanted the newspapers,” Gehrig said. “It’s a no-brainer, and it’s been easy to sell them.”
About 100 newspapers are sold each day at the McDonald’s restaurants, Gehrig said. He said the company keeps track of each paper that is sold, and that each cash register has a key to document when a paper is sold.
“It’s an easy service to provide,” he said.
Gehrig said the company sends the American Press a list of how many papers are sold at the end of each month and is billed for the papers sold.
“We pay for the papers we sell,” he said.
Gehrig said most of the McDonald’s restaurants have undergone major renovations over the last few years. He said the company is working to renovate the Westlake location.
