Cameron LNG officials will host two meetings in Sulphur this week to let residents know about the company’s plans to build two additional liquefaction trains and another LNG storage tank at its LNG terminal near Hackberry.

The meetings will be Thursday, May 14, at the Holiday Inn, 330 Arena Road. The first will be 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.; the second will be 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Julie Nelson, vice president of government relations and public affairs at Cameron LNG, said there will be five storyboards that explain the expansion project. Officials with Cameron LNG and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission will answer questions about the project. Nelson said FERC requires the company to engage with the community.

“It’s important for us to share with the community and to answer any questions they may have about the project,” she said.

The Cameron LNG website says the expansion would increase LwNG production capacity by 9.97 million metric tons a year and “would allow the company to export additional LNG from low-cost, reliable U.S. LNG supplies to international markets.”

Cameron LNG is constructing three liquefaction trains at the terminal in Hackberry. The $10 million project will produce up to 12 million tons of LNG each year for export. The website says that commercial operation should start in 2018.

Nelson said Cameron LNG is in the prefiling process with FERC for the construction of the fourth and fifth trains. There is a six-month period between prefiling and filing. The filing is planned for September, and FERC apwproval would likely occur sometime next year, she said.
