A 49-year-old Sulphur man has been charged with theft over $500, authorities said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Kyle M. Lyons, 1730 Deer Creek, was arrested after a three-week investigation.

“On Sept. 18, detectives received a call from the owner of a local business regarding an employee stealing from the company,” Myers said Tuesday in a news release. “The owner said he discovered that Lyons, on several occasions over the last three months, had charged customers directly for materials. The materials were provided by the company for projects and were already covered in the contracted price. Lyons then kept the money.”

Lyons admitted he collected over $1,000 in direct payments from customers, Myers said.

Judge David Ritchie set Lyons’ bond at $25,000.

Detective Eddie Curol was the lead investigator.
