Sulphur church vandal arraigned

A man accused of vandalizing several Sulphur churches last month was arraigned Monday in 14th Judicial District Court.
A trial date of June 17 was set for Daniel Wayne Duplechin, 35, who is accused of doing damage at four Sulphur churches.
The District Attorney’s office filed a bill of information Jan. 17, charging
Duplechin with four counts of simple burglary of a religious building.
Duplechin is being held at Calcasieu Correctional Center on $400,000 bond.
Simple burglary of a religious building carries a minimum sentence of two years without probation, parole or suspension, according to Holly Carter, district attorney spokeswoman.
Sulphur police said Duplechin broke into Our Lady of Prompt Succor and destroyed several religious statues with a sledgehammer.
Authorities said Duplechin also busted out glass at Henning Memorial United Methodist and Sulphur First Baptist churches.
He was arrested at Our Lady of LaSalette, where he also destroyed statues, police said.
