Residents looking to dispose of expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs can bring them to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, 5400 E. Broad St., 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29.

The service, offered as part of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, is free and anonymous.

The local disposal site is one of over 5,000 operated by the federal Drug Enforcement Administration and state and local law enforcement agencies.

Residents are encouraged to not flush drugs or toss them into the trash. Both acts pose safety and environmental hazards.
