A Vernon Parish substitute teacher was arrested on Friday after an investigation revealed she engaged in inappropriate sexual conduct with a student, according to officials.
Cindy Martinez, 39, of Simpson was arrested on Feb. 14 after a complaint was filed with the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office regarding the allegations. Upon further investigation it was determined that Martinez, a substitute teacher at an area high school, did have inappropriate sexual relations with a 17-year-old student.
Martinez was arrested and booked into the Vernon Parish Jail on one count of prohibited sexual conduct between an educator and a student. The charge applies when educators engage in sexual conduct with a student at his or her school of employment and is above 17 years of age but less than 21 years of age. Bond was set at $5,000.00. Martinez posted bond and was released.
Martinez’s arrest comes just two months after an arrest of an Anacoco basketball coach for the same charge after it was discovered he had engaged in sexual conduct with a 17-year-old female student.
