Lake Charles mother, sons arrested for bath salts

A Lake Charles mother and two sons have been arrested on suspicion of distributing bath salts, state authorities said.

Verna Oliver, 48, and her sons, Daniel Oliver, 25, and Matthew Oliver, 24, all of Lake Charles, were arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute a Schedule 1 controlled dangerous substance, according to a news release from Louisiana State Police Sgt. James Anderson.

Anderson said state police recovered three kilos of bath salts worth an estimated $134,000.

State police began investigating earlier this month and learned that a package containing Ecstasy and bath salts was being shipped to Lake Charles, Anderson said.

On Tuesday, an agent with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service delivered the package and Daniel Oliver signed for it.

State police and members of the Office of Homeland Security and the Drug Enforcement Agency raided the home, Anderson said.

The suspects were being held on a $50,000 bond Wednesday afternoon at the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center.
