Officials with a Baton Rouge-based environmental company Thursday discussed the proposed Interstate 210 Cove Lane-Nelson Road interchange, a project they said would make it easier to access the I-210 corridor.
Scott Hoeffeld, project manager for Arcadis U.S. Inc. said the proposal includes a roundabout at Cove Lane and West Prien Lake Road. The project’s two phases would be interchange improvements at Cove Lane, along with improvements on Nelson Road and a realigning of West Prien Lake Road.
The plan — called the “preferred alternative” — was one of six that were presented during a public meeting in September. According to a report by the state highway department, it would have the least impact to commercial and residential property and would be the most affordable.
The report says the plan “proposes use of a diverging diamond interchange design at Nelson Road and construction of a tight urban diamond interchange at Cove Lane.” Cove Lane “will be extended north under a new overpass for I-210, and West Prien Lake Road will be relocated to the east and north of the Prien Lake Plaza on the north side of I-210.”
The report also says West Prien Lake Road would be relocated “through the parking lot of Prien Lake Plaza on the north side” of the interstate.
Hoeffeld told the American Press in September that the project “could cost between $60 million and $100 million,” and that “$50 million has already been identified through private, state, local and parish entities.”
Hoeffeld said public comments received by Dec. 28 will be included in the transcript of Thursday’s hearing.
