LAKE CHARLES (AP) — Austin Burk, an assistant coach at Baylor for three seasons, has been named head golf coach at McNeese State.
Athletic Director Tommy McClelland said Tuesday that Burk has the energy, knowledge and skill to be successful and his desire to build a championship-caliber program "came across loud and clear during the interview process."
Burk helped Baylor advance to the NCAA's regionals twice. He also served as an assistant at Rice for three years, where he helped guide the Owls to their first team championship since 1998 and make their first NCAA post season appearance in 13 years.
Burk will take over the post at McNeese July 1. He replaces Neel DeRouen, who resigned after guiding the program for seven years.
