Leesville woman dies in two-vehicle crash

A 27-year-old Leesville woman died Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Beauregard Parish, state police said.

Sgt. James Anderson, Troop D spokesman, said that ReAnna Marie Francis Knox was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected when her vehicle flipped. She died as a result the injuries.

"A 1993 Ford Explorer driven by Knox was traveling south on Three Pines Church Road and failed to stop at a stop sign at La. 26,"Anderson said. "A 2011 Kia Optima, driven by 43-year-old Richard Rangel of Leesville, was traveling west on La. 26 and struck the SUV Knox was driving."

Anderson said Rangel received only minor injuries but his passenger, 47-year-old Leisha Irvin of DeRidder, was taken by air ambulance to an area hospital with moderate injuries.

"Impairment on the part of Knox is suspected to be a factor in the crash,"Anderson said. "A toxicology sample was obtained from the drivers and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation."

Anderson said six of the seven people who have died in crashes investigated by Troop D this year were not wearing a seat belt. Three of those deaths have occurred in Beauregard Parish.
