A man found guilty of second-degree murder in an April 2011 drive-by shooting off La. 27 in Carlyss was sentenced to life in prison Wednesday in state district court.

Judge Kent Savoie administered the mandatory sentence to David "Dice" Caleb Fontenot, who was convicted March 26 by a 12-person jury of killing 20-year-old Stephin Wayne Bergeron. He was also convicted of attempted second-degree murder for shooting at Chance Bourgeois, who was with Bergeron.

Savoie sentenced Fontenot to 50 years in prison on the attempted murder charge, to run concurrent with the life sentence.
