Tennis team to play twice in Ruston

The McNeese State women’s tennis team will play a doubleheader today in Ruston.

The Cowgirls (0-2) will play Louisiana Tech (1-3) at 10:30 a.m., followed by a 2 p.m. match against Grambling State (0-2). The Cowgirls are playing their first six matches of the season on the road. McNeese opened the season last week with losses to Georgia State and Baylor in Waco, Texas.

McNeese wins six events in Houston

HOUSTON — Twenty-two top-five finishes and six first-place finishes highlighted McNeese State’s performance at the FasTrack Invitational Saturday at the University of Houston.

Cowboys distance runner Joey Croft won the mile with a time of 4 minutes, 14.81 seconds and six of the next nine finishers to round out the top 10 were all Cowboys.

Also for the men, the distance medley relay team finished first (10:45.44).

On the women’s side, four Cowgirls made up places second through fifth in the triple jump, including Malaiya Jedkins (12.25 meters), Shaelyn Hines (11.83), Morgan Talley (11.68) and Heaven Terrell (11.60).

Alanna Arvie placed first in the weight throw for the second consecutive meet with a mark of 20.09 meters and also placed fourth in the shot put.
