JENNINGS — Owners of hot rods, low riders, sport bikes, cruisers, mini trucks and Detroit iron are gearing up for this weekend’s Last Resort Show.

The event opens to the public 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, and continues 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday at the Louisiana Oil and Gas Park, located off Interstate 10 at exit 64.

This is a family oriented show where everyone can come out and see many different type of vehicles, some of which have been shown all around the country,” promoter Stuart Daigle said.

Last year’s event drew 230 vehicles and 1,500 spectators, including one spectator who flew in from Japan just for the show, Daigle said. Even more participants and spectators are expected this year, he said.

“We expect to have people and cars coming from a five-state area and beyond,” Daigle said.

Customized cars, trucks, hot rods, import vehicles, motorcycles, cruisers and more will be on display for viewing and judging throughout the two-day event.

“This event brings a lot of people and attention to Jennings each year,” Daigle said. “That means business for our local merchants and hotels.”

The show is also expected to attract several national and regional car clubs, magazines and online web sites, Daigle said.

In addition to the cars, trucks and motorcycles on display, there will be several contests including pizza eating, tug-of-war and more.

Vendors will sell food, clothing and automotive accessories.

Admission at the gate will be $10 a day or $15 for a weekend pass for spectators.

Registration for show vehicles will be $30 the day of the show.

Judging will begin Saturday and continue until noon Sunday. Vehicles will be judged on appearance, modification, cleanliness and more.

Prizes will be awarded in the top 75 categories with eight specialty awards. Awards will be presented at. 3 p.m. Sunday.
