BATON ROUGE (AP) — Gov. Bobby Jindal has launched a TV ad attacking a candidate for a southwest Louisiana-based state Senate seat.

Sen. James David Cain, a Republican, criticized the governor for backing incumbent state Sen. John Smith in the race. So, the Advocate reports the governor has fired back by spending nearly $100,000 of his own campaign funds to pay for a television commercial criticizing Cain for using his legislative years toward his teacher’s retirement.

The ad is airing in the Alexandria and Lake Charles areas.

Jindal campaign aide Timmy Teepell says the governor felt it was important to respond to Cain’s ad. On Twitter, Teepell warned “there’s more where that came from.”

Cain says he’s shocked by the ad, after helping Jindal on the campaign trail in past governor’s races.
