Moments in Motherhood

At home…

Well, I stopped working after last week’s appointment. Contractions and back pain were the reason.

It’s nice being home. The contractions haven’t stopped, but it’s nice to be able to lay down and rest when they come on. I still get them every day, but not nearly as much as before. Cameron is glad that I’m home. If things get worse and I have to be on strict bed rest, my mom will help. But for now, we hang out around the house together. The baby and I have gotten lots of kisses from him.

We’re really getting prepared for the baby (34 weeks now). Most of her clothes are washed and in the drawers or hanging. Her bedding is clean. Friends and family gave me two diaper showers recently. What a blessing! So now we have a good amount of diapers and wipes.

Every time we go in the baby’s room, Cam “wants to help.” I let him help me carry clothes to the washer. But then when I had them folded and was putting them away, he decided to help again. His help was grabbing piles of clothes and trying to throw them into drawers. Tonight, he helped carry wipes boxes from the floor to the changing table. He was excited. I wonder if he’ll want to help this much when the baby is here.

33 weeks

So, I had an ultrasound today to check the baby’s weight and position. All is good. She is measuring at 4 pounds, 8 ounces and is head down.

Wow.. 33 weeks already. Feels like it’s flying by, but at the sametime, it feels like the finish line is so far away.

The  nursery is really coming together. I have great friends who have been giving us clothes. Now I need to get them all washed and arranged. I need to wash her bedding, too.

As for Cameron, he’s growing and talking more. He stepped on the scale at my sister’s house Thursday. He put on 2 pounds. He seems much taller, too.

He repeats almost everything these days. So he has lots to say.

Comparison

I find myself comparing pregnancies a lot. It’s hard not to do.

For instance, back pain.. I didn’t have back pain with Cameron. I have it now.

The morning sickness was a big difference. Horrible this time. Tolerable the last time.

My friend suggested I compare pictures of my pregnancy. So here it is.

Week 29

Well, I am now 29 weeks pregnant. Eleven more until my due date.

The most common response I get when asked my due date is “Oh, maybe a Christmas baby.” To be honest, I don’t want to be in labor for Christmas. LOL Maybe that’s selfish, but I’d rather be spending that day with family and friends, especially Kevin and Cameron.

I also want my daughter to have her own birthday. I know I could make the day special even if she was born on Christmas. But a few people with birthdays around Christmas have told me they hate it.

However close her birthdate is to Christmas, I will make every effort to make her day a special one. It won’t be overshadowed by a big holiday or anything else.

She is definitely growing in there. I don’t think she’s moving more than normal, but I am more aware of her movements lately. I now feel knees, elbows and feet rolling around in there.

It’s already almost mid-October. Seems like the last two months have flown by. Before I know it, it’ll be December. I was feeling a little anxious about getting everything ready, but family and friends have made that easier for me. I have great friends who said they have girl clothes to pass on to us. And the crib bedding is on the way, a gift from Kevin’s grandmother. Now there’s only small things to get here and there.

As for Cameron, he is still quite the character. We recently went through a phase where he didn’t want to eat. I imagine it may have had a little to do with those last two teeth making their way in. Yes, last two teeth!

I guess my son is over his eating strike. He spent the weekend with Kevin’s parents recently. My mother-in-law said that he woke up around 1 a.m. wanting to eat. He had a whole bowl of grits and went back to bed. And today, during his day with Daddy, he is eating quite well.

He is becoming a little more interested in my belly lately. I ask where his sister is and he points to my belly. One night last week, Kevin told him to “tell Mom and the baby good night.” My son ran over to me (waiting with arms wide open), kissed my belly and said “night night baby” before turning and running off. No hug for Mommy. LOL

His vocubulary is an ever-growing thing. New words lately include “rainbow,” “rain, go away rain,” and “it’s funny.”

It’s a girl!

Well, I went for my free ultrasound today, and it’s definitely a girl!

She weighs about 2 pounds and was head down. She’s definitely growing and moving around in there. Here are some pics.

These are her face, but the umbilical cord was right in front. But you can make out the mouth and chin (turn your head to the right).
