A quick note or five about the Phillies

BATON ROUGE — You know the Philadelphia Phillies won the World Series. You may not know all of the Louisiana connections on the team. Heck, I discover a new one seemingly every day.

There’s Clay Condrey, a former McNeese State pitcher who is called underappreciated in this column by Jim Salisbury of the Philadelphia Inquirer. I know you already knew about Condrey.

There’s pitcher Chad Durbin, who lives here in Baton Rouge, where he starred for Woodlawn High School.

There’s slugger Ryan Howard, whose brother Chris was associate athletic director for compliance at LSU from 2003-06, and who is one of several Phillies who uses a Marucci bat, made just down the road from my apartment by Jack Marucci, the director of athletic training at LSU.

There’s Brad Lidge, the closer extraordinaire who played college baseball at Notre Dame for Paul Mainieri, now the coach at LSU.

There’s Brad Holland, a former McNeese State player, student coach and assistant coach who went on to be an assistant and later head coach at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. The Phillies recently hired him as a scout.

Those are some pretty interesting connections — some less direct than others, but still some good “Did you know?” info for your drinking buddy at the root beer stand.

You’ll let me know if I left someone out, right?
