BATON ROUGE — Former LSU baseball coach Smoke Laval is reportedly heading back to Jacksonville, Fla., where he played college baseball, to take over the program at the University of North Florida.
Smoke liked the program at North Florida a few years ago when the Ospreys came to Baton Rouge to play a series against the Tigers. He and North Florida coach Dusty Rhodes have a longtime relationship, and with Florida a fertile ground for baseball recruiting, he’ll do well at the school.
He’s been scouting for the Toronto Blue Jays. I wish him well.
