Mascot looks more modern, but not anything like F.T. Nicholls

BATON ROUGE — Perhaps you saw the story about Nicholls State updating its mascot for more modern look, something more “fierce,” one university official said.
Here is one story about the change.
I understand the underlying reasons for the retirement of the old mascot, which happened a few years ago, and this makeover. I support the spirit of the change, if not everything about it.
F.T. Nicholls, for whom the school was named, was twice elected governor of Louisiana. He lost an arm and a leg in the battle of Shiloh, and when he later ran for office, his slogan was “Vote for the rest of me.”

The old mascot looked like him. The new one? Not so much, which you saw if you clicked the link above.
That’s a shame, in a lot of ways, because I like that attitude.
“Vote for the rest of me.”
And they did. Twice.
He lost an arm and a leg in battle and got on with his life, twice winning election as governor. That’s fierce enough for me.

I went to the aforementioned website to see the new mascot.
He bears a resemblance to the guy who cut off my … ahem, his arm and leg.
