HOOVER, Ala. — Les Miles says it often, and it always makes me grin.
“Dadgone it.”
He said it just now during his question-and-answer session at SEC Media Days.
I don’t even really know how to spell it. Dadgoneit?
I’ve heard of dadgummit. I’ve heard of doggone it. Miles is the only person I know who says “Dad gone it.”
See? I still don’t know how to spell it.
In fairness, I should point out the lyrics in Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal” contain what to many sounds like this very Miles-ism. So, who came up with it first?
Translating Les Miles can be a daunting task at times, but there are far worse jobs in the world. Oh, and in case you were wondering, he hasn’t said “Ar-KAN-sas” yet today. Stay tuned.
