Be strong!

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” — Joshua 1:9

I love the way God commands the people to be strong and courageous. I think sometimes we have to be told to toughen up because our inclination is to freak out about our situations. In fact, despite my faith in God, my first response to disaster is almost always to panic or worry. It is some time after this that I will set aside my terror and trust in God. And often, I must go through this exercise more than once – finding myself in that ridiculous cycle of panic and trust. What a relief it is, though, that I can always get to and get back to “the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” What comfort there is in this assurance. God is with us.
