Comfort in the discomfort

Lately, my prayers have centered on direction. With graduation from seminary only a few months away, I am wondering what God has in store for my life.
In my denomination, there are no guarantees. I might be appointed to serve somewhere, I might not. I could be ministering to youth once again. I could be on staff at a church. I might go to work in an extension ministry. I might end up a tentmaker – working in a secular job and volunteering outside of work.
I have peace in the midst of my unknowing. It’s ok to be uncomfortable. These are the times I get to rely most heavily on God. These are the times I get to stretch my faith in the Lord.
Recently, I discovered a prayer that not only gives me comfort, it reminds me that there is great value in being disturbed from a life a that is too comfortable.
A PRAYER FOR VISION Author Unknown
Disturb us, Lord, when we are too well pleased with ourselves; when our dreams have come true because we have dreamed too little; when we arrived safely because we have sailed too close to shore. Disturb us, Lord, when with the abundance of the things we possess, we have lost our thirst for the water of life. Stir us, Lord, to dare more boldly, to venture on wider seas, where storms will show your mastery; where losing sight of land, we shall find the stars. We ask you to push back the horizons of our hopes and to push us into the future in strength, courage, hope and love. Amen.
