JENNINGS — The 31st annual Jennings Alive Arts Festival will take center stage Saturday in the historic downtown area.
The open-air arts and crafts street fair begins at 9 a.m. with the opening of the craft booths and continues until 3 p.m. with a craft show, live entertainment and food booths.
A portion of Main Street in downtown Jennings will be closed for vendors and informational booths.
Founders Park, located at the corner of Main and Nezpique streets, will be the center for live entertainment throughout the day .
Master of ceremonies Bart Glatt will entertain the audience with a variety of comedy, magic and games.
Dance troupes from local dance studios will demonstrate their latest moves noon-2 p.m.
Each year the Jeff Davis Arts Council sponsors guest artists in Founders Park demonstrating their craftsmanship. This year is no exception.
Lace-making expert Tillie Linscomb of Elton will demonstrate the nearly lost art of tatting.
Jennings fireman and local woodcarver Johnny Navarre will demonstrate and sell his handmade duck calls.
Beth Syron of rural Lake Arthur, will demonstrate her wool-spinning craft on a vintage spinning wheel. Syron is known in the region for her craftsmanship and knowledge of spinning.
Across the street from Founders Park, the Jeff Davis Arts Council will sponsor Art World. LoLo the Clown will entertain and do balloon art. Children are invited to learn various arts and crafts taught by experienced volunteers free of charge. Visiting children will be introduced to drawing with chalk, paper art, stamping and more.
The W.H. Tupper Museum, the Louisiana Telephone Pioneer Museum and the Children’s Telephone Museum will have a special $1 price admission on Saturday for all age groups. Included in the tour is the Old Magnolia Exhibit Room with Christmas as it was in 1949 and before.
Caring Hands resale shop, 327 N. Main St., will be open 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Local food vendors will be on hand selling hamburgers, shrimp on a stick, pork chop sandwiches, nachos, red beans and sausage, shrimp etouffee, funnel cakes, onion blossoms, pork jambalaya, plate lunches and more.
Festivalgoers may bring folding chairs.
