A Lake Charles man was killed in a single-vehicle accident at the intersection of Enterprise Boulevard and Third Street, authorities said.
Clifton Harmon Jr., 33, 1834 Rena St., was killed when his 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix hit a tree in the median of Enterprise Boulevard, Deputy Chief Mark Kraus, Lake Charles Police spokesman, said.
Prior to the crash, the Grand Prix was involved in a minor hit-and-run with another vehicle at the intersection of Enterprise Boulevard and 12th Street, Kraus said.
The car was traveling north on Enterprise at a high rate of speed, when Harmon lost control of the vehicle, Kraus said. After hitting the tree, the vehicle came to rest east of the road, Kraus said. Harmon died at the scene, he said.
“There were no witnesses to the crash itself, only a witness who stated that the vehicle passed him at a high rate of speed headed northbound on Enterprise Boulevard and ran the traffic light at Enterprise and 7th Street,” Kraus said.
It is not yet known whether drugs or alcohol were factors, Kraus said.
