A Lafayette man who police said ran over his ex-girlfriend in a Sowela Technical Community College parking lot pleaded not guilty Monday to charges stemming from several domestic abuse incidents.
Brian Anthony Woods, 24, was indicted March 29 on attempted second-degree murder, attempted second-degree kidnapping and forcible rape charges.
He was arrested in Jennings about two hours after he reportedly ran over the woman outside the school’s coffee shop Feb. 23.
Witnesses said he tried to choke the woman, who escaped and ran toward a nearby building. After following her in his car for a while, witnesses said, Woods ran her over.
A school employee heard the woman’s screams and pulled her to safety. The victim was hospitalized afterward.
Woods is also charged with unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling and simple burglary for allegedly breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s home on Feb. 14 and Feb. 15.
Woods was given a pretrial conference date of Aug. 16 on all matters. His case is before Judge David Ritchie.
