A Sulphur woman was taken to a local hospital after being shot by a Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s deputy following a pursuit Tuesday evening, officials said.

At 9 p.m., a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Evelyn Dargin, 33, said Sheriff Tony Mancuso. He said Dargin exited the car, but got back in her car and fled as the deputy approached. A pursuit ensued, and Dargin stopped again before driving off again.

The pursuit ended at the 300 block of North Louisiana Ave. Mancuso said Dargin struck a patrol unit, then drove toward another deputy who was out of his unit. The deputy fired one shot, striking her in the face, he said.
