A Welsh woman is accused of lying to authorities regarding a homicide investigation, state police said Friday.
Patrina Lyons, 30, was arrested Thursday and charged with false swearing for the purpose of violating public health and safety, according to Sgt. James Anderson.
Lyons was driving a vehicle in which her passenger, Denzell Lamar Lampkin, 20, of Welsh was fatally shot in late January.
Lampkin was reportedly shot in the left side of his upper torso while inside the vehicle on North Street, according to Police Chief Tommy Chaisson.
Deputies reportedly found Lampkin inside the vehicle, which they stopped after they heard gunshots. He died later from the injuries in an area hospital.
Lyons was not injured.
“Lyons implicated a suspect in the shooting,” Anderson said in a news release Friday. “Further investigation revealed the implicated person could not have been the shooter because the person was in another city at the time of the shooting.”
Lyons was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center on a $200,000 bond.
If convicted, she faces up to five years in prison and a $1,000 fine.
Detectives assigned to the State Police Bureau of Investigations were asked to assist Welsh police in the homicide investigation, Anderson said.
The shooting was one of two in Welsh that night.
Termain Wilridge was shot in the foot in an earlier incident, authorities said. He was with a group of men walking on Kennedy Street at the time.
A residence where Wilridge reportedly sought help after the shooting was destroyed by a suspicious fire the same night. Authorities later ruled the fire as arson. No arrest has been made in connection with the shooting or the fire.
Welsh police are investigating three unsolved homicides and numerous gun-related crimes in the town since 2011.

Title: angry
Are only negative comments allowed? Because that is all your posting. This doesn't have anything to do with the streets. That was stupid, and what is even more stupid is to comment that its about time that someone is held responsible. How about holding the right person responsible!! Someone innocent was hurt and that is Patrina. The person implicated was in Welsh that night. Witness saw him at his mother's house. But police don't want public to know that.

Title: innocent victims
The officers need to hold the right people accountable not innocent victims. We asked for help not to arrest innocent people. A lot of people know things and are afraid to talk to wpd and detectives just because of things like this. Rushing into an arrest because they look bad. To many people saw " the implicated" person that night for him to be out of town. It's just sad. It's funny how one family have ties to two of those murders. Just saying.

Title: Its about time
Really "dnt talk the streets" ?? You live in Welsh, Louisiana... and it is about time that SOMEONE is held responsible for these horrible crimes. I want the time back that I could let my children play outside without worring that some jerk with a gun could be shooting some other jerk and miss. It is sad, but until some innocent person or child is hurt- I don't see this ending. It is time that Welsh citizens hold people responsible. It is time we take our town back from these ignorant people who have nothing better to do than shoot each other. I hope that this is the first of many arrest.
