Welsh man in Jeff Davis Parish Jail dies after collapsing

A Welsh man in the Jeff Davis Parish Jail died after collapsing.

Lou Allen Griffin, 54, of 730 Beufort St., died at 6 a.m. Thursday at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, according to the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Griffin collapsed at around 7 p.m. Wednesday. Griffin was not breathing and deputies administered CPR until emergency medical responders arrived. EMS attendants reported Griffin had a faint pulse during transport to Jennings American Legion Hospital. Griffin was transported around 10 p.m. Wednesday to Memorial Hospital.

Griffin was incarcerated for criminal damage to property and aggravated simple arson. He was housed in the Welsh City Jail for four months prior to being transferred to the parish jail 21 days ago.

The Calcasieu Coroner’s Office is scheduled to conduct Autopsy. Griffin’s next of kin was notified this morning.
