Defenses at St. Louis and Washington-Marion will be facing tall orders this weekend.

Washington-Marion (0-2) will host Sulphur (0-2) and running back Derrick Guillory, who ran for 340 yards last week in a 34-27 loss to Holy Cross.

The Saints (1-1), coming off a shutout win over Abbeville, will host West Feliciana and receiver Jazz Ferguson, an LSU commitment.

W-M struggled against the run in last week’s 43-18 loss to Sam Houston, allowing 358 rushing yards. W-M head coach Freddie Harrison does not expect things to get easier with the Tors coming to town. Guillory is second in the state with 532 yards rushing.

“He is a good back; good vision, good escapability and he runs hard,” Harrison said. “They do a good job of getting the ball into playermakers hands at opportune time. The quarterback (Byron Walker) is good, No. 20 and Guillory are good skill players.”

W-M’s offense came to life last week with Jacobi Taylor running for 124 yards and Quajae Boutte catching 10 passes for 131 yards.

“Everybody woke up and realized they are the ones that are going to have to make plays,” Harrison said. “It is going to take a little time. It was their second time under the lights; they are going to mature. We have to make sure we prepare ourselves to be successful. Taylor is starting to come into his own and realize he can be a playmaker. Quajae has been making plays; we have to be sure to get the ball in his hands.”

Ferguson is 6-foot-5 and lines up at receiver and in the backfield for West Feliciana. He ran for 210 yards and two touchdowns in the season opener and 71 total yards last week against Franklin Parish.

“They are a real good football team. We can’t afford to be lax,” said St. Louis head coach Charlie Cryer. “We are getting better. We need to have more physicalness about us. We played pretty well against Sam Houston and improved last week. West Feliciana beat us pretty bad last year so we need to be ready. They run a wing-T/straight-T type look. They don’t throw much — 15 passes in the two games and jamboree. They have a lot of size and quarterback Ryan Reed started last year. He is solid and they have beaten two solid football teams.”(Rick Hickman/American Press)
